An award ceremony was held at the premises of the Romanian embassy in Nicosia on Tuesday 15 March to honor Mr. Marios A. Klitou with one of Romania’s highest national honours; the National Order for Faithful Service of the Rank of Knight.
On behalf of the President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, the Ambassador of Romania to Cyprus Mr. Dan Michalache presented the award to Mr. Klitou, in appreciation for his special contribution to the development of Romanian-Cypriot economic, political and cultural relations and for his involvement in several social projects for the preservation of the Romanian cultural heritage.
Mr. Klitou thanked Mr. Michalache emphasizing “It is with great honor that I receive this award. I appreciate that this is one of Romania’s highest national honours and I would like to thank the President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Iohannis as well as the Ambassador Mr. Dan Michalache for the honour. I assure you that I will continue working towards a strong economic, political and cultural relationship between both of our countries.”
Marios A. Klitou is the CEO of Baker Tilly South East Europe which operates in Romania since 2001 offering accounting, tax, audit and consulting services. He is also a member of the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania (CAFR) and a Member of the Body of Expert Accountants and Chartered Accountants in Romania (CECCAR) and a founding member of the Bilateral Chamber of Commerce and Industry Romania-Cyprus in 2003.
Mr. Klitou is the Honorary Consul of The Republic of Romania in Cyprus since January 2014 and since March 2019 he is the President of the Cyprus – Romania Business Association.
A cocktail reception followed the award ceremony which was attended by honourable members of the Cypriot political and business scene.
